Solar panel cleaning in Lincolnshire
Solar panels in Lincolnshire are cleaned with pure water through a pole and no detergent at all. Detergent leaves a film that attracts the next layer of dust, and pressure drives water past the frame seals and can craze the anti-reflective coating — which is why a panel is a low-pressure job even though it looks like glass.
How the job goes
- The photos A shot of the array and one of the roof it sits on answers the two questions that matter: how dirty the glass is and how it can be reached.
- Pure water, pole-fed Water goes through a filter until the dissolved solids are near zero, then up a pole with a soft brush. It dries without spotting because there is nothing left in it to spot.
- The frame edge The lower frame edge is where droppings and silt collect and where shading does the most damage, so it gets worked along deliberately rather than brushed past.
- A look at the rest Anything noticed on the way — moss creeping under a panel, a bird nest behind the array, a cracked cell — gets photographed and sent on, whether or not it is work.
What this does not cover
Nothing electrical is touched: isolators, inverters, wiring, optimisers and roof fixings are all left alone. Panels with a cracked cell or a delaminating film are photographed and left as they are, because washing them changes nothing and handling them can make it worse. Bird-proofing mesh is a separate job and a separate quote.
Questions about solar panel cleaning
Does a dirty panel really cost output?
Yes, and unevenly. A uniform film of dust costs a few per cent; a line of droppings or lichen along the bottom of one panel shades whole cells, and a shaded cell drags the string it sits in down with it. That is why the frame edge matters more than the middle of the glass.
Is deionised water necessary for panels?
It is what makes the difference between clean glass and clean-looking glass. Mains water in this county is hard, and hard water dries as a mineral haze that shades the panel exactly the way the dirt did. Filtered water dries clear and leaves nothing behind for the next week of dust to stick to.
Are roof-mounted arrays reached without walking the tiles?
That is the aim and it is usually achievable: a pole from the ground or from a tower reaches most domestic arrays on a two-storey house. Where it genuinely cannot be reached that way, the photos say so before anything is booked rather than after.

- Roof moss removal in Lincolnshire — roof growth is what ends up shading a panel.
