Conservatory roof cleaning in Lincolnshire
A conservatory roof in Lincolnshire takes low pressure and nothing more. Polycarbonate scratches and crazes, and a sealed unit that gets hit with a jet lets water past the edge seal and mists up from the inside — so the algae comes off with a soft brush, filtered water and patience instead.
How the job goes
- The photos A photo from an upstairs window is worth five from the garden: it shows the sheeting, the glazing bars and how much silt has banked up against the ridge.
- The bars and the ridge Leaf silt packs into the glazing bars and along the ridge flashing, and that is where the green line comes from. It gets flushed and brushed out first.
- The panels Soft brush and filtered water across each panel, worked down the slope at low pressure so nothing is driven into a joint.
- The frames underneath The frames, the gutter on the lean-to and the glass in the walls below get done in the same visit, because a clean roof over green frames looks worse than before.
What this does not cover
Sealed units that have already blown stay blown — cleaning the outside does not clear the mist between the panes, and no amount of washing will. Interiors, roof vents, blinds and the inside of the glazing bars are not included. A roof whose fixings or capping have gone soft is not cleaned until they have been seen to, because the cleaning would be the thing that found out.
Questions about conservatory roof cleaning
Can polycarbonate sheeting be walked on?
No. It is not a structural surface, it is weatherproofing over an aluminium frame, and it gives way without much warning once it has aged in the sun. Everything is done from a ladder, a tower or a pole from the ground, which is also why the photos from an upstairs window are so useful.
What about the algae inside the glazing bars?
The dark line you can see from indoors is usually silt and growth on the outside of the bar, under the capping, and that does come out. Anything genuinely inside a sealed bar or between the panes of a unit is behind the seal and cannot be reached from outside without breaking something.
Will a cleaned conservatory roof leak afterwards?
Not from low-pressure work on a roof in sound condition — that is the whole reason the pressure stays low. A roof that was already going to leak sometimes shows it afterwards, and that is why the condition of the capping, the fixings and the ridge gets photographed before the brush goes anywhere near it.
